Woman struck by car identified

A woman struck by a vehicle at a local convenience store Saturday night has been identified. A Macon woman accidentally backed over her daughter Saturday night at the Crossroads Convenience Store at the intersection of Rose Avenue and Veterans Parkway here. Rita Smith, 61, of 3876 Northside Drive in Macon told responding officer Jonathan Sutton of the BPD that she was backing up to the store to pick up her daughter, applied the brake but her vehicle did not stop. The 2006 Toyota Scion jumped the curb in front of the store at about 10:20 p.m., pinning 38-year-old Rebecca Diane Scissom of 138 Harris Lane in Tracy City, Tennessee to a Coke machine. Smith pulled forward, exited her vehicle and found Scissom on the ground screaming. A medical evacuation helicopter was summoned but Scissom was transported to Spalding Regional Medical Center by Mid Georgia Ambulance. A condition report request has been submitted to the hospital by The Herald-Gazette without response.
