Though work is not yet complete, Barnesville’s new wastewater treatment plant went online January 20. All processes have been transitioned from the old facility at the same Gordon Road site. The new plant can treat 2.4 million gallons of wastewater per day.’It has been a successful startup with impressive water quality results,’ Barnesville city manager Kenny Roberts said.Roberts noted a number of components are still not complete due to prolonged delivery schedules of some specialized mechanical and electrical equipment. Inclement weather has also been a factor.’We are anticipating final completion in the next 30 to 60 days. The facility is state of the art and will allow the city to meet the most stringent environmental standards,’ Roberts said. The plant, which is to be named for longtime facility superintendent James A. King, will be dedicated at an open house sometime in May.
