Wrong way driver crash sends one to Grady

A woman driving the wrong way on Hwy. 41 near Milner triggered a bizarre accident early Thursday that snarled traffic on the four-lane for an extended period and sent her to the Grady trauma center in a medical evacuation helicopter. ******************** NOTICE: This story and photo(s) are under copyright. She didn’t get far. According to witnesses, she dodged a tractor-trailer rig but then hit a gray Nissan Altima head-on. The male driver of the Altima suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. As deputies were sorting things out, the Escape driver had gotten out of her vehicle to smoke a cigarette when a second tractor-trailer roared past emergency vehicles, hit one of the cars which in turn hit the woman sending her flying through the air. She was unresponsive at the scene for some time but was stabilized by the time she got on the chopper, EMTs reported. Both the vehicles involved bore Lamar County tags. The tractor-trailer driver likely faces multiple charges. The truck was owned by Bugger Trucking of McDonough. The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. (Note: The Georgia State Patrol computer system remains locked down due to a ransomware attack. It may be some time before full details will be forthcoming but we will have them when available.)
