#2 for the Trojan baseball team

The Lamar Co. Trojans notched win number 2 this week, as they defeated their Region 5-AA Opponent in the Manchester Blue Devils by a score of 6-4. After having played an excellent game against Hawkinsville — a 13-3 win — on Monday, the Trojans traveled to Meriwether Co. on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. contest that would not be quite as easy. As a matter of fact, it was a game that wasn’t decided until the last out was recorded in the bottom of the 7th inning. Senior, Blane Parker went the distance for the Trojans on the mound, and scattered 8-hits over 7-innings in recording the win… The Trojans led 6-3 going into the bottom of the 7th, but the Blue Devils made things interesting by scoring 1-run to cut the lead to 6-4, with just 1-out on the board. Then, the Blue Devils kept the pressure on the Trojans by loading the bases, and only needing to score 2-to-tie, and 3 for the comeback win. That’s when Parker showed his poise and gamemanship by getting a ground ball hit to the shortstop. Devin Couch — the Trojans Shortstop — fielded the ball near the 2nd base bag, stepped on the bag, and zipped the baseball to Michael Sneed at first base for the game-ending double play… The Blue Devils actually out hit the Trojans 8-to-5. But, the Trojans scored 6-runs on the 5-hits that they managed in the game. The Trojans hit the ball hard — up and down the lineup — but, it was just one of those days in baseball where they hit it right at the Blue Devils defensive players. Trent Nix led the Trojans at the plate, as he garnered 2 of the 5-hits on the day by all Trojan Players. Once again, a number of Lamar Co. Fans made the trip over to Manchester to support the Trojans. Game action will resume on Friday — 3/27 — when the Varsity hosts their Region 5-AA Opponent, the Jordan Red Jackets, out of Columbus, Ga. at 6:00 p.m. on Aldora Field. The Trojans now stand at 7-2 overall on the season, and 3-2 in Region 5-AA play. Lamar Co. 6-5-1 Manchester 4-8-1
