Mother Catherine M. Fletcher was born on March 19, 1937, in Barnesville, Lamar County, Georgia, to the late Mrs. Minnie Maude and the late Mr. Henderson Taylor. At the age of eight, in 1945, she joined the Historical West Mount Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor D. F. Fuller.
Throughout her childhood, Mother Fletcher was active in the youth choir, Sunday school, and usher ministry. She fondly remembered assisting the elders of the church, including her grandparents, Deacon Fred Williams, and Mother Ellen Davis Williams, who were devoted members. Walking to church and enjoying picnics on the lawn were
cherished memories from her youth. She was educated in the Lamar County School System and graduated from Barnesville Industrial
High School in 1954. She later attended trade school in Elyria, Ohio, before returning to Barnesville in 1957. On March 21, 1959, she married the love of her life, the late Arthur Fletcher, with whom she shared a loving marriage for 52 years until his passing. Mother Fletcher dedicated her profes-
sional life to education, working at Gordon Grammar School and later with the William Carter Company for a total of 31 years. She was a hard worker and provided well for her family. As a devoted church member for 79 years, she participated in the
Mother’s Ministry and the Salt Ministry. Under the leadership of Pastor Waylon T. Knight, she played a vital role in preserving the church’s history by adding missing artifacts to the collection.
On October 1, 2024, Mother Fletcher’s earthly journey ended when the Lord whispered her name. She departed this life and entered into
eternal rest. Mother Fletcher is survived by her children, Ronnie (Fay) and
Rodney (Veronica) Fletcher; grandchildren, Dr. Jarrod (Dr. NaToya) Fletcher, Rondrikus Fletcher, and Jeremy (Jekira) Fletcher; and great-
grandchildren Neva, Aiden, Brayden, Aubrey, and Kali Fletcher, who affectionately called her “Sugarplum.” Sister in Law, Christine Fletcher. She is also survived by a host
of cousins, friends, and staff at the Heritage Inn of Barnesville. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will be remembered by all who knew her.
